Nadal Beats Djokovic for Place in Rogers Cup Final
11 August 2013
Tennis: Spain's Rafael Nadal has beaten arch rival Novak Djokovic to secure his place in the Rogers Cup Final to face Canadian Milos Raonic.
Another massive win for Spain's tennis hero Rafa Nadal over the world No1 and top seed Djokovic sees his own status improve to put him in third place I the world tennis rankings. Not least of it places him in the final where he is now favourite to take the trophy.
Nadal Marches On
Nadal beat Djokovic 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) in a thrilling semi-final to make it two wins out of three meetings with the Serbian player this year to bring his total to 21 wins over 36 matches. The final tie break was a cliff hanger that was soon decided as Nadal built up a decisive 6-0 lead.
The Spaniard's form is back at its peak again following his much documented time off. He has won no less than 47 matches out of 50 played this year, which is a statistic that is hugely intimidating for any player to go up against.
We have already seen Rafa demolish the opposition in the French open. However, he did not manage to get so far at Wimbledon, which we have no doubt provided Andy Murray a chance to breathe a sigh of relief.
Djokovic Run Ended
This defeat has ended a winning run of 13 matches in Canada for the Serb, who has already chalked up title wins in 2007, 2011 and 2012. But he didn't go out without putting up a stern fight.
Coming back in the eighth game in the second set from 40-0 down he broke Nada's serve to force the tie break. He then gave spectators an exciting final set pushing it all the way to 7-6 when Nadal finally got free to take the match.
